Overview
Location:
Tucson, AZ 85756. Salary Range: $35,360.00 - $51,979.00 per year. Under minimal supervision and administrative direction, performs preventive maintenance and ensures all mechanical repairs conform to applicable rules, regulations, and standards on a diverse fleet of vehicles and specialized equipment for Tucson Airport Authority (TAA), including public safety vehicles and equipment at Tucson International Airport (TUS) and Ryan Airfield (RYN).
The following functions and all other functions not included in this job description are to be performed in the best interests and for the greater good of TAA.
- Support and advocate for TAA’s Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles and act as a champion and role-model of TAA’s Cultural Fundamentals.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on a diverse fleet of automotive and specialized equipment, including gas and diesel vehicles, golf carts (electric and gas), and small gas-powered hand tools.
- Inspect drive train, suspension, and brake systems on vehicles and equipment; inspect cooling, hydraulic, electrical, exhaust systems and components.
- Report discrepancies found during preventative maintenance inspections to supervisor.
- Test drive vehicles and equipment.
- Wash/detail vehicles.
- Prepare new vehicles for service.
- Operate many types of mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Maintain work records in accordance with Department policies.
- Use work order software to complete work orders, timecards, and parts requisitions.
- Use email and phones to communicate equipment/vehicle status.
- Ensure required materials and supplies are obtained to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
- Research, locate, price, and submit information regarding the purchase of necessary parts and tools.
- Ensure hazardous materials are used or disposed of in accordance with environmental health and safety standards.
- Maintain all TAA-owned or leased tools in a clean and proper manner.
- Be responsive to airport emergencies and situations involving potential loss of life or property; support public safety and operational response to emergencies; utilize ICS/NIMS protocols; coordinate and/or participate in after-action emergency debriefings with appropriate departments and stakeholders.
The above functions may be expanded or reduced by management based on future needs and requirements.
QualificationsPosition Requirements: Must have a high school diploma or equivalency and a minimum of 6 months mechanical work experience in automotive maintenance. Education, including high school or college automotive courses, may be substituted for experience.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
- Proper procedures for performing a complete automotive preventative maintenance inspection including, but not limited to:
- Oil & filter changes
- Transmission fluid & filter changes
- Differential fluid drain and fill
- Hydraulic brake inspections
- Lighting inspection and bulb replacement
- Cooling system fluid drain and fill
- Power steering component inspection and fluid flush
- Wheel bearing inspection
- Suspension component inspection
- Battery inspection and replacement
Maintenance and repair of small equipment including chain saws, weed eaters, blowers, saws, generators, and golf carts; inspection, patching, mounting, and balancing of tires.
Skills: Organization, oral, listening, and written communications, proofreading, critical thinking, and multitasking. Self-motivation and initiative to complete quality work that furthers the department and TAA. Proficiency with computers, including email, Microsoft Word, Excel, and electronic work order systems.
Ability: Read and understand technical manuals, repair manuals, Safety Data Sheets, training documents, safety-related information, and supply lists; function within a work prioritization system; perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and mature judgment in high-stress, fast-moving environments with deadlines.
