Job Summary
Regional Wastewater Reclamation – Utility Maintenance Worker I (Classified, Salary Grade 6; Pay Range $21.12–$28.50 per hour). Responsible for routine cleaning, repair, inspection, vector control, disinfection, and maintenance of sanitary sewage conveyance systems (gravity and pressure) within Pima County’s 3,500‑mile sewer network.
Essential Functions- Operate specialized equipment, machines, and vehicles such as pressure cleaners, sprayers, television inspection equipment, vacuum, balling, and rodding machines.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repair of sewer lines, cleanouts, manhole structures, covers, and wastewater pumping system facilities.
- Locate and remove blockages in sewer lines and manholes and clear the area around manhole covers.
- Physically adjust manhole structures and/or cover assemblies.
- Perform routine operational check‑outs on wastewater pumping systems.
- Apply and properly dispose of pesticides, disinfectants, and oxidizing agents.
- Serve as operator‑level maintenance technician for specialized tools, equipment, assigned vehicles, and machinery.
- Maintain and use safety and personal protective equipment to comply with operational safety regulations.
- Store, handle, and dispose of hazardous materials as instructed by the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
- Establish and maintain worksite traffic control and warning devices.
- Assist other Utility Maintenance Workers in flow/atmospheric monitoring and television inspection of systems.
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- At least six months of experience performing maintenance work in general construction or an industrial setting.
- Achievement of ADEQ Collection System Grade1 Certification within the first year of employment.
- Obtainment of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL with tanker endorsement) within six months of hire.
- Valid Arizona driver license at hire.
- Valid ClassD Arizona driver license at hire.
- Valid ClassB Arizona commercial driver license (CDL) with required endorsements by end of probation.
- Valid Grade1 Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Wastewater Collection certification within initial staffing period.
Ability to lift up to 75pounds for brief periods and to enter and work in confined spaces wearing appropriate PPE. Required activities include bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, squatting, stooping, grasping, hearing in noisy areas, speaking in person, on the phone or radio, and vision tasks such as operating vehicles, machinery, and distinguishing colors and depth perception.
