Custodian II - Sheriff's Department

Overview

Custodian II – Class 5907. Classified position. Salary range $17.37–$20.41 per hour, Full pay range $17.37–$23.45 per hour. First review of applications on 02/13/2026. Position remains open until filled.

• Plan, organize, supervise, and occasionally participate in custodial workers’ duties.
• Engage in cleaning of buildings, office facilities, and surrounding areas.
• Train and instruct custodial workers in proper methods, procedures, and infection control techniques.
• Inspect completed work to ensure conformance to accepted standards.
• Supervise and participate in loading, unloading, and moving supplies, equipment, and furniture.
• Order and maintain inventory of custodial equipment and supplies.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports.
• Prepare cleaning and disinfectant solutions and ensure proper disposal.
• Perform more difficult maintenance tasks as needed.
• Inspect equipment to determine needs for new parts, repairs, overhauls, and replacements.
• Distribute and collect keys and/or pagers.
• May be assigned to work in a jail or detention center.

• Two (2) years of commercial, institutional, or industrial custodial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Or one year of experience with Pima County as a Custodian I or closely related classification.
• Relevant college or university education may be substituted.
• Qualifications must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application.

• Valid driver license required at time of application.
• Valid Arizona driver license required at time of appointment.
• 39‑month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review required to determine suitability to operate county vehicles.
• Possible Arizona Department of Public Safety regular Clearance Card required at appointment.

• Pre‑employment background checks including verification of work history, education, and criminal convictions.
• Possibly satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by court or law enforcement agencies.
• Some positions may involve direct inmate contact and exposure to blood borne pathogens.
• Hepatitis B vaccination, tuberculosis screening, respiratory protection training, and personal protective equipment will be provided.
