Wastewater Maintenance Specialist II
Pima County's Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) is hiring a Wastewater Maintenance Specialist II. In this position your job duties will be to maintain and repair complex equipment that treats Wastewater. Essential Functions:
- May assist with or lead operational and preventive maintenance of complex heavy-duty industrial equipment and machinery utilizing hydraulics and pneumatics of systems involving pneumatic tanks, deep wells, air compressors, pneumatic actuators, wet wells, pumps, and booster stations;
- May fabricate, construct, install, repair, and align heavy-duty industrial equipment and machinery such as deep well pumps, water pumps, and piping systems, horizontal and vertical drive centrifugal pumps, spherical, thrust, radial, and line shaft bearings on pumps and motors utilizing gas and electric welding;
- May assist with or lead critical repairs to complex or conveyance systems, equipment, and related features to maintain system integrity and functions in accordance with standards, rules, and regulations, particularly those systems or equipment operated under permits or licenses granted by other governmental agencies;
- May assist with or lead repairs or operate specialized equipment such as submersible pumps, speed increase rs and decreases, blowers, conveyors, gear boxes, mixing equipment, and industrial stationary engines;
- Inspects, services, and maintains common and specialized tools, equipment, and vehicles used in performance of duties;
- Utilizes and ensures fellow staff utilize standard occupational safety practices and equipment;
- Maintains comprehensive records of work performed, modifications to equipment or systems, and related operations logs;
- May prepare periodic and special reports for management on equipment, systems, and/or facilities supported or maintained;
- Lifts and moves heavy materials, tools, and supplies;
- Uses and maintains safety and personal protective equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of experience working in industrial mechanical maintenance and repair, pumping systems, electrical systems, or power generation engine maintenance.
(Work experience limited to automotive, truck, or heavy equipment maintenance is not qualifying experience.)
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
OR:
Two years with Pima County in a Wastewater Maintenance Specialist I or closely related classification as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum three (3) years experience with mechanical equipment, performing repairs and routine maintenance of pumping systems, pumps, gear boxes, plumbing, pipe fitting, and compressor/blower maintenance.
- Minimum three (3) years experience with maintenance, repair, preventative maintenance, diagnosing, or troubleshooting in Wastewater, construction, or fabrication.
- Minimum one (1) year experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Minimum one (1) year experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources.
Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates:
Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination.
