Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, General Labor
The Plant Maintenance Technician supports treatment plant operations by performing manual labor and assisting with the maintenance and repair of plant equipment. This role ensures the plant operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards. This position reports to the Lead Treatment Plant Operator and Chief Treatment Plant Operator.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in the removal of limbs, brush, and debris for disposal.
- Painting equipment and structures.
- Repairs various equipment, structures, etc.
- Must have a working knowledge of power tools, mowers, weed trimmers, etc.
- Maintenance and safe use of all hand and power tools.
- Drive a truck to run errands.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools.
- Have working knowledge and previous use of hand tools, power tools, tractors, cranes, winches, pumps, mowers, weed trimmers, chainsaws, and welding machines.
- Commitment to safety and attention to detail.
- Ability to work indoors /outdoors, in various temperature extremes.
- Must be able to work independently and effectively with other employees.
- Must have good vision, hearing, and communication skills.
- Must be able to read/ speak English; understand and carry out oral instructions.
- Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must be able to lift 80 lbs. occasionally, lift 50 lbs. frequently, lift 20 lbs. regularly, stand, walk, climb, bend, balance, stoop, crouch and crawl up to 8 hours daily
High School diploma or GED preferred. One (1) year of experience in manual labor is preferred. Utilities experience preferred. Must possess a valid Class C Texas Driver’s license with a clear driving record.

The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in glace or each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Norge, and eight years of relevant experience will he considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree, any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
