Position: Welder I (Solid Waste)

Purpose Of Position

Repair and refurbish containers for the commercial operation. Perform maintenance on City owned compactors and receiver boxes. Work on making repairs to fork pockets, replacing bottoms, buffing and repainting, re-numbering, changing lids and lid rods out and putting on decals. Receive shipments, mowing, cleaning facility, keeping inventory, performing washouts and keeping the wash bay operational.

Essential Functions

Inspect, repair, dump and washout front load containers. Repair or rebuild pockets, replace bottoms and lids, repair seams, corners, side walls, buff, paint and number containers. Repair roll off containers by repairing rear door and latches, plate side walls, floors, and side ribs; buff and repaint container and renumber box. Repair compactor by rebuilding floors, blades, and door seals. Replace cylinders.

Replace the floor in residential trucks, rebuild compaction blade and replace packer assist hinge. Fill out daily report. Communicates on radio. Must be able to mow, and weed-eat the complex and conduct inventory cycle at the CMF. Must be able to use arc welder, mig welder, cutting torch, plasma cutter, airless paint sprayer, tractor, skid steer, container truck, grinders, metal chop saws, porta powers, hammers, pressure washers, welding hood, respirators, face shields and drills.

Must know safety requirements and practices. Must be able to withstand extreme temperatures, wetness and humidity, respiratory hazards and physical hazards daily. Must be able to exert over 50lbs. occasionally, 25 - 50lbs frequently or from 20 up to 50lbs constantly. Must be able to communicate effectively with management, employees, and the general public, using a telephone or radio. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Must have over one (1) year of experience in welding. Must take an on-site welding test. Must have a valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License with clear driving record.
