Description
Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for two full‑time night shift custodians. The position is 40 hours per week, 12 months a year, and requires an equity‑minded individual committed to supporting a diverse student population and the District Mission.
Shift Hours and PayThe shift is 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The night shift differential is $1.27 per hour.
Responsibilities- Maintain assigned classrooms, offices, and other college facilities in a clean and orderly manner
- Sweep, scrub, mop, wax, and buff floors; vacuum and shampoo rugs and carpets; remove stains; dust, wash, wax, and polish furniture and woodwork
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, drinking fountains, waste containers; wash windows; clean blackboards, trays, erasers; refill paper and other dispensers and empty waste containers
- Participate in intensive cleaning functions such as washing walls; cleaning air‑conditioning vents; removing finish from, scouring surface floors, applying sealer, finish, and wax
- Operate vacuum cleaners, buffers, scrubbers, and other custodial equipment
- Assist with gym floor maintenance; help set up or assist in setting up for college and community events; move and arrange chairs, tables, desks, and other furniture and equipment as directed
- Picks up paper and other refuse from grounds; assists with maintenance and grounds work as assigned
- Perform minor maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, unclogging drinking fountains and toilets; report cleaning and repair needs and safety hazards to proper individuals
- Perform minor repairs and adjustments to equipment as needed
- May respond to emergency maintenance, facility, and grounds calls during non‑work hours
- Perform any related duties assigned
- Mobility: frequent walking, standing, reaching above and below shoulder level, balancing on varied surfaces; occasional bending, kneeling, crouching; climbing ladders and working from varied heights as necessary
- Dexterity: frequent fine manipulation sufficient to operate custodial equipment and handle tools
- Lifting: frequent lifting up to 75 pounds
- Visual Requirements: clarity of vision at varying distances to perform custodial duties
- Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and speaking in person and occasionally on the telephone
- Emotional/Psychological Factors: frequent need to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others; frequent deadlines and time‑limited assignments
- Meet Human Resources hiring guidelines, including a Live Scan background check and completion of a TB test
- Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic, and ethnic backgrounds of students, staff and faculty
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, tools, supplies, materials and safety procedures used in custodial work
- Perform a variety of diverse duties in cleaning and maintaining facilities according to department standards
- Learn and apply department standards for maintaining college buildings
- Use, store, and handle cleaning materials, supplies, tools and equipment safely and effectively
- Observe and report cleaning and repair needs and safety hazards
- Perform minor maintenance and repairs on equipment
- Maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Understand and follow verbal and written directions
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment as directed
- May drive college vehicles; observe legal and defensive driving practices
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Valid California driver’s license preferred.
Benefits- Monthly salary range: $3,573 – $3,941
- Five annual step movements; initial placement at step 1 unless approved otherwise
