General Maintenance Technician

Job Title General Maintenance Technician Summary

Troubleshoot and complete routine repairs, general maintenance, and preventative maintenance on building systems and equipment as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Perform equipment and facility repairs to ensure reliable operation to provide a safe living and learning environment.

* Conduct testing, inspections, and preventive maintenance on systems and equipment to minimize equipment failures and corrective maintenance.

* Monitor and evaluate system and equipment operation to detect, investigate and prevent problems that could cause failure.

* Perform varied maintenance, repairs and preventative maintenance in Residential Halls, Academic buildings, and Residential Properties to get them prepared for occupancy.

* Assist and train others to improve staff capabilities and department performance.

Required Qualifications

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* One to three years of related work experience or educational equivalent.

* Valid driver's license.

* Knowledge of assigned systems and equipment.

* Ability to analyze equipment conditions to determine effective maintenance and repairs.

* Ability to complete timesheets, work orders and e-mail on the computers.

* As needed to analyze operations and make adjustments and repairs to maintain efficient performance

* Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll's mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.

Preferred Qualifications

* Vocational or technical training.

* Five years of experience in building maintenance or trades.

Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions

This position works in-person from our campus in University Heights, Ohio. 40 hours per week as assigned. Department's core hours range from 7:00 am - 6:30 pm. This position will require work performed outside of normal business hours and weekends based on campus needs and participation in an on-call schedule.

Physical Requirements

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in office and job site settings; to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate amounts of weight up to 50 lbs.; able to climb ladders; to operate tools and equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination;

to travel to other campus locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Hours Full Time FLSA Non-Exempt (Hourly) Compensation & Benefits

Starting salary will be $17.50 - $22.00 / hour, commensurate with qualifications.
