Division Intercollegiate Athletics Job Summary

Under general supervision, to perform all related work required to operate and maintain building mechanical equipment, furnishings, and fixtures in a large multi‑purpose building, such as the State Farm Center.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Building Systems Operations & HVAC Management
  • Inspect, care for, clean, operate, and lubricate all building mechanical equipment, including HVAC, steam, water, humidification, and temperature control systems.
  • Maintain proper temperatures and humidity throughout the building.
  • Start and stop mechanical equipment according to established schedules.
  • Read gauges, meters, thermometers, and other monitoring devices and maintain required records.
  • Perform rounds throughout the facility to ensure environmental conditions are properly maintained.
  • Assist in maintaining smoke detection and fire alarm systems as related to HVAC operations.
  • Preventive Maintenance & Facility Repairs
  • Inspect building structures, machinery, equipment, furnishings, and fixtures to identify repair needs.
  • Perform or coordinate repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Replace air filtration media, regenerate water softeners, and perform other routine maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect building plumbing and perform minor repairs not associated with potable water systems.
  • Repair and maintain permanent arena seating.
  • Assist with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of facility maintenance equipment, including tractors, forklifts, and floor scrubbers.
  • Fabricate parts and equipment for use in facility operations, events, and exhibits.
  • Event & Facility Support Operations
  • Inspect mechanical equipment utilized for events, exhibits, shows, and other special functions.
  • Open, secure, and monitor building access before and after events.
  • Hang permanent signs, banners, and displays throughout the facility.
  • Support facility readiness and operational needs for events and public functions.
  • Inventory, Asset Management & Documentation
  • Order, stock, and distribute maintenance supplies and replacement parts.
  • Receive new equipment, assign inventory numbers, and participate in physical inventory processes.
  • Maintain and update architectural drawings and facility documentation.
  • Maintain operational logs, records, and equipment documentation.
  • Vendor, Contractor & Team Coordination
  • Coordinate and collaborate with skilled trades personnel and contractors performing work within the facility.
  • Authorize and requisition maintenance and repair work as needed.
  • General Facility Operations
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Support overall building operations to ensure a safe, functional, and comfortable environment for occupants and visitors.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

This position requires heavy physical labor, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly, climb ladders, and maneuver through tight spaces. Candidates must possess the agility to bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods while working in extreme temperature environments like boiler rooms. Strong manual dexterity and visual acuity are also essential for operating precision tools, reading technical gauges, and repairing complex mechanical systems.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years (36 months) of full‑time employment in the maintenance of building mechanical equipment and/or as a mechanic of refrigeration, ventilation, and/or food‑service equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with basic HVAC or plumbing building systems.
  • Training or experience in building maintenance and/or operations.
  • Experience in theatrical, athletic, or exhibit set up and presentation.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to operate building equipment and the skills to perform maintenance tasks and maintain records.
  • Knowledge of and experience with HVAC systems.
