The City of Urbandale is seeking hardworking candidates to join our and Parks teams for the 2026 season as Summer Laborers. Under the direction of the Public Works Supervisor or the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, you’ll gain hands‑on experience supporting essential maintenance, operational, and construction activities that keep our community safe, clean, and thriving. This role offers the opportunity to develop practical skills, work with a variety of tools and equipment, and contribute to meaningful projects that directly impact residents and visitors.
Whether assisting with park upkeep, supporting street and infrastructure maintenance, or helping with facility care, you’ll be part of a team dedicated to delivering high‑quality service to the community.
This temporary summer position runs from mid‑May through mid‑August 2026 and involves performing heavy manual labor in a variety of outdoor conditions.
Parks Laborer Responsibilities:- Assists with park maintenance projects.
- Repairs and replaces park equipment.
- Assists with landscaping work in parks and at facilities.
- Assists and performs janitorial duties in park facilities.
- Assist maintaining City buildings and property.
- Assists park staff in arborist work activity in parks and at City>
- Operates vehicles and assorted hand and power tools.
- Performs heavy manual labor.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Assists with street maintenance projects.
- Repairs and replaces traffic control devices.
- Assists with the application of pavement markings.
- Assists with the maintenance of sanitary and storm sewer systems.
- Maintains City buildings and property.
- Assists in the collection of solid waste.
- Operates vehicles and assorted hand and power tools.
- Performs heavy manual labor.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Job Duties /Responsibilities:
- Attend safety meetings and seminars as required and promote safety. Follow all City and department safety policies and procedures.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Ability to take initiative.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Problem‑solving ability.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to concentrate in a diverse work setting.
- Sound judgment and decision‑making abilities.
There are multiple openings available for the 2026 season. This opportunity will be posted until filled.
