Position: Custodian, Full-time FMS

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform general custodial duties to keep school facilities clean, safe, and orderly.

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, wax, and maintain floors and other surfaces.

• Clean restrooms, fixtures, windows, desks, walls, chalkboards/whiteboards, and other school areas.

• Collect and remove garbage and dispose of waste appropriately.

• Respond to emergency cleaning needs, including bodily fluid cleanup and other urgent sanitation concerns.

• Assist with maintenance of school grounds, including mowing, trimming, fertilizing, sweeping sidewalks, removing snow and ice, picking up trash, and cleaning graffiti.

• Make minor repairs to equipment and facilities, including replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains, repairing or replacing door hardware, repairing furniture, and performing similar minor maintenance tasks.

• Receive, store, and distribute supplies and equipment delivered to the school.

• Move equipment, furniture, books, supplies, and other materials as needed.

• Assemble and install cabinets, tables, shelving, and other furniture or equipment.

• Repair, clean, and open lockers as requested.

• Assist with building setup and cleanup for school programs, athletic events, dances, meetings, and other activities.

• Assist maintenance staff with repair of school buildings and equipment as assigned.

• Operate custodial, grounds, and maintenance equipment safely and appropriately.

• Open and secure the building as assigned.

• Respond to after-hours emergencies when required.

• Supervise student sweepers, substitute custodians, or other assigned helpers when directed.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.

• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Ability to prioritize work and initiate work activities independently.

• Ability to interact effectively and professionally with students, staff, parents, and the public.

• Ability to respond appropriately to work requests and changing building needs.

• Six months or more of experience related to custodial, maintenance, grounds, or similar work preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

• Ability to safely use custodial equipment, grounds equipment, power tools, hand tools, ladders, and related equipment.

• Must successfully complete required background check and onboarding requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, lift, carry, push, pull, and move furniture, equipment, and supplies as required by the position.

• Ability to perform custodial, grounds, and minor maintenance tasks.

• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.

• Physical, mental, and emotional requirements may be reviewed as needed for purposes of reasonable accommodation.

Equipment Used

• Floor-care equipment, including mop, broom, burnisher, buffer, floor scrubber, vacuum, and carpet extractor.

• Grounds-upkeep equipment, including lawnmower, edger, weed trimmer, shovel, snowblower, and related equipment.

• Power tools, including drill, saw, and sander.

• Hand tools, including hammer, screwdriver, wrench, and similar tools.

• Air compressor, power washer, ladder/scaffolding, two-way radio, wheelbarrow, and lifts where available.
Description
Millard School District is accepting applications for a full-time Custodian at Fillmore Middle School. Under the general direction of the Head Custodian, and in coordination with the school principal, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, orderly, and functional school facilities.

This is a full-time classified position on a 250-day/year contract. The position is eligible for applicable full-time District benefits.
