Job Focus

Under limited direction, performs a variety of cleaning work in offices, classrooms, restrooms, and multipurpose rooms; assists with college’s preventive maintenance program; maintains and beautifies grounds; ensures the delivery of quality maintenance and janitorial services. Responds to emergency janitorial and maintenance requests. Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Maintains proper care of college campus facilities including buildings, grounds, and fleet.
  • Provides care and routine maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Observes safety rules and wears protective equipment while operating equipment and using chemicals.
  • Cleans facilities, including blinds, windows, light fixtures, drinking fountains and walls, following established procedures.
  • Thoroughly vacuum, sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax, and clean building floors and carpets as needed.
  • Collects and disposes of trash receptacles in properly designated areas as needed. Thoroughly cleans receptacles.
  • Thoroughly cleans restrooms and fixtures; ensures all toiletries and paper products are available for use.
  • Performs general repairs; replacing light bulbs, hanging curtains, moving furniture and movable partitions, setting up chairs, tables, lights and podiums for special events and college functions.
  • Properly handles and maintains materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Clean and maintain vehicle fleet and outside equipment such as tractors and mowers, etc.
  • Promptly reports any lost, damaged, or broken tools or equipment to appropriate personnel.
  • Properly maintains and operates power mowing, tilling and trimming equipment to cut grass, edge walks, flower beds, curbs, etc.
  • Mows lawns, trims shrubbery, and cultivates flowers; rakes, collects, and disposes of leaves and refuse from grounds; applies insecticides by use of sprayer as directed and by adhering to necessary safety precautions; repairs and maintains sprinkler systems. Plant, mulch, fertilize and weed flower beds and shrubs. Treat and fertilize lawns.
  • Clears snow and debris from sidewalks.
  • Monitors supplies and materials inventory; apprises supervisor of shortages.
  • Demonstrates proper attitude and behavior including getting along and cooperating with co-workers, responding politely to customers, working as a member of a team, being able to think quickly and act appropriately in emergency situations, perform well under pressure, and putting in extra hours as the workload demands.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • This is a part-time, on-call/as-needed position. This is a non-benefited position.

    Work Location: Roosevelt Campus and/or Vernal Campus

    Minimum Qualifications
  • High School graduate
  • One (1) year experience performing janitorial and maintenance services
  • Proficient in computer applications
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain excellent customer relations
  • Demonstrated ability to follow various processes and procedures
  • Must successfully pass criminal background check
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Note:

    Related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
