Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Responsibilities- Supervise mechanics and maintenance of light‑duty vehicles in Barrow and maintain records.
- Schedule and support maintenance of all light‑duty vehicles.
- Estimate parts and labor, update and order inventory, write reports, keep logs, and prepare work orders.
- Inspect maintenance work to ensure quality control.
- Perform hands‑on training of subordinates.
- Evaluate personnel and job performance.
- Conduct safety meetings and instruct personnel regarding Borough policies and procedures.
- Perform the duties of an automotive mechanic.
- Operate a variety of diagnostic instruments and hand, electric, and air‑driven tools.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
- Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications.
- Skill in the operation of diagnostic equipment.
- High school graduate or G.E.D. or a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
- Four years of light‑duty mechanic experience.
- Two years of supervisory experience.
- Valid Alaska driver’s license that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
- Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 300, IS 400, IS 700 and IS 800.
- CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid certifications.
- Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 265.16 within probationary period.
- Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within probationary period.
- Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 273.16 within probationary period.
- Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. 112.7 (f)(1)(2) and (3) within probationary period.
