The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is a Special Service District that manages 407 acres of public park space, including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, an Olympic‑size swimming pool, and 4 community centers. GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land.
Job DescriptionUnder general supervision assist the full‑time maintenance crew in all aspects of grounds and facility maintenance in the assigned area. Perform a variety of minor repairs such as irrigation systems, buildings and ball fields, routine maintenance on equipment, and various technical tasks as directed.
Receive immediate supervision from higher level maintenance staff.
Essential FunctionsKnowledge of basic methods and techniques of general construction, grounds maintenance, and custodial work; basic operational characteristics of mechanical equipment and tools.
Ability to learn a variety of maintenance, construction, custodial and repair work; learn fertilizer composition, plant identification and maintenance; learn mowing techniques and operate mechanical equipment; perform heavy manual labor; understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships; maintain mental capacity for effective communication.
Experience and EducationSome general maintenance experience performing similar work in parks or landscaped areas is desirable. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Possession of a valid California driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.
Working ConditionsField environment with travel between sites; exposure to hazardous chemicals, heat, cold, inclement weather, slippery or uneven surfaces and heavy construction equipment. Physical demands include heavy lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, working at heights, standing for prolonged periods, and operating motorized vehicles and equipment.
