Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year experience as a custodial assistant or custodian; strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment
- Good mechanical aptitude, with the ability to learn to maintain the specific HVAC and other systems of the assigned school
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Current WISHA approved first aid certification
- Current ISSAS (International Sanitary Supply Association Standards) district training and certification
- Ability to work effectively as a team leader and team member
- Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of custodial employees
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions
- Ability to meet tight time constraints and deadlines
- Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements, goals, and outcomes
- Ability to see well enough to inspect cleanliness of work areas
- Ability to clean to meet acceptable health and other environmental standards
- Ability to communicate with a variety of people, in person, electronically, in writing, and over the phone and/or radio
- Ability to spend most of the workday standing, lifting, and walking
- Ability to lift up to 1/3 of your body weight up to 60 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders to change light bulbs and do other tasks
- Under the supervision of the Building Operator, assign work to swing shift custodial assistants, oversee their work, and assist with evaluations and corrective action plans. Assist in maintaining supply inventory and anticipate future needs so supplies are always available.
- Train new custodial assistants and substitute custodial assistants in proper cleaning techniques.
- Perform duties of Building Operator when necessary.
- Take appropriate steps daily to ensure the facility is physically secured.
- Operate HVAC system of assigned school; change belts, lubricate, or make adjustments as needed; write work orders for maintenance as necessary.
- Inspect building, grounds, and equipment for safety and repairs needed; make temporary emergency repairs; write work orders for further repair; make minor repairs to furniture and equipment, including repairing lockers and changing combinations.
- Prepare facilities for after‑school activities, including setting up chairs and tables, opening building, and assisting groups; clean up and secure building after activities.
- Perform assigned cleaning tasks, including cleaning of restrooms, floors, carpets, walls, furniture, and black/white boards; empty trash containers; use power tools and/or hazardous chemicals safely.
- Take preventative measures to protect building and equipment from freezing weather; clean snow and ice from walkways and roof when necessary.
- Assist in the performance and discipline process as directed by the Building Operator and/or Maintenance Supervisor.
- Provide direction, feedback, and guidance to enable crews to perform their job requirements as directed by building administrators and the Director of Facility Maintenance and Operations.
