Position Summary

Water Distribution Operator – Competitive wages, great benefits, training available.

Established in 1925, Water District 19 is the largest of the Group A water systems serving Vashon-Maury Island. We pump, treat, and deliver water from deep wells and surface water sources to nearly 1,500 water service connections.

The job requires operators to provide on-call duties (remain on-island while on-call), work independently as well as part of a team, and possess a willingness to learn new skills. The work can be physically demanding and is often performed outdoors in various weather conditions. The ideal candidate has a strong background in distribution system maintenance, operation, repair, and installation. The District will provide the training and education required to obtain Water Distribution Manager 2, Water Treatment Plant Operator 2, and Cross-Connection Specialist Certification.

Starting wages dependent on skills and experience:

• WDM 1/WTPO 1/CCS – $40.15/hr to $42.60/hr
• WDM 2/WTPO 2/CCS – $46.83/hr to $58.30/hr

Education & Experience

• High School diploma or GED
• Minimum two (2) years experience in water utility work or construction trades OR two (2) years of education in an approved waterworks training program OR a combination of education and/or related work experience.
• Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Heavy equipment operation and/or construction experience preferred.

Operations Technicians must possess/have the ability to possess and maintain the following:

• Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record
• Class A Commercial Driver License (preferred)
• Active certifications from the State of Washington Department of Health:
• Water Distribution Manager (WDM) 1.
• Water Treatment Plant Operator (WTPO) 2, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Cross-Connection Control Specialist.
