To fill a current vacancy, 8 hours per day, 12 months per year in the Facilities Services Department, and to establish an eligibility list to fill future vacancies. The eligibility list will remain in effect for six months.

Basic FunctionUnder the direction of the Facilities Manager, perform a variety of grounds maintenance and gardening duties in the beautification of assigned grounds, athletic fields and landscaped areas.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThe Grounds Maintenance Worker II is the advanced‑level classification in the series and performs the more complex grounds maintenance duties including irrigation and grounds construction work. Incumbents assume lead responsibility over designated work projects. The Grounds Maintenance Worker I classification is the entry‑level classification in the series. Incumbents perform general grounds maintenance tasks and assist in major maintenance projects as assigned.
Education and ExperienceAny combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and ability to perform the essential duties of the position. One (1) year of experience in more complex grounds maintenance duties including irrigation, grounds construction, grounds maintenance and gardening beautification.
Licenses and Other RequirementsValid California driver’s license.
Testing InformationThe examination process may include a multiple‑choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam or any combination of assessments appropriate to determine technical ability.
Step 1:Application Screening
Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to criteria that most closely meets the needs of the department. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be emailed an examination pass after the closing date. A photo examination pass are required for admittance to the exam.
Step 2:Written Examination
Weighted 50%, tentatively scheduled for July 17, 2026. Test topics include grounds, equipment & procedures, safety, and human relations. A photo required for admittance to the exam.
Step 3:Qualifications Appraisal Interview
Weighted 50%, tentatively scheduled for July 22, 2026. All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process to be placed on the eligibility list.
Additional Salary InformationNew hires may receive advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on experience and education. All new hires placed at Step 1 advance to Step 2 after successful completion of the six‑month probationary period. Longevity increments are offered for years of service: 1.20% at 4 years, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years.
