Summary

American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking one member to contribute to historic preservation projects alongside Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park staff.

These opportunities are intended for enthusiastic individuals who possess an interest in gaining experience in the field of historic preservation. No background or previous experience in construction or historic preservation required. Training for all tools and activities will be provided by park staff professionals.

Description:

Nestled among the rolling hills of eastern-central Vermont, the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park (MABI), Vermont's only national park, preserves and interprets the history of the conservation movement in the United States through the stories of three families associated with the property. The park features the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller mansion and a series of nuclear fallout shelters, 20 miles of carriage roads and trails, and over 500 acres of the oldest scientifically managed forest in the United States.

The park is also home to the NPS Stewardship Institute, an advanced study institute exploring new avenues of conservation leadership and practice in the National Park Service.

Position Overview:

Planned projects include assisting a stone mason with historic stone wall preventive maintenance, stone and brick foundation repairs, and chimney repointing. The ACE member would assist a seasoned facilities operations specialist with building operations and repair. The ACE member would assist a contracted artist/craftsman who specializes in historic replication/repair. Projects include repair/replace trim and fascia of the historic bowling alley, as well as replicating wood features of the Bowling Alley porch.

Additionally, the ACE member will assist with repairing, replacing or replicating historic shutters on the park Double Cottage and Mansion.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 7:00AM-3:30PM

Position Benefits

Living Allowance:
The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $720/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Housing: A housing allowance of $1,000/month will be provided for the duration of the term.

Professional Development Stipend: $1,000 of professional development funds will be available to participants for pre-approved uses.

Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support.

Qualifications

Required:

* Remove if non AC
- Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts

* Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.

* Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.

* A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request). Members must be 21+ to drive due to ACE's insurance and liability requirements.

* Willing to undergo and must pass the required criminal history checks

* Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
