Director of Maintenance, Director of Facilities, or Building Principal. FLSA Status:
Non‑Exempt.

Position Objective – Provide routine cleaning, housekeeping, and basic maintenance services to ensure District buildings are clean, safe, and conducive to learning.

Key Responsibilities Cleaning & Housekeeping
  • Clean and maintain floors (vacuum, sweep, dust mop, wash, strip, wax, buff).
  • Wash windows, walls, chalkboards, trash cans, water fountains, and sinks.
  • Dust furniture, fixtures, and woodwork.
  • Clean and stock restrooms; change and clean shower curtains.
  • Empty trash receptacles and remove litter inside and outside buildings.
  • Perform routine grass trimming and leaf raking near entrances.
Building Maintenance & Repairs
  • Repair or replace ceiling tiles.
  • Clean and repair window coverings.
  • Repair plumbing fixtures.
  • Replace light bulbs and adjust/change clocks.
  • Perform routine maintenance on electrical fixtures, heating and ventilation systems (e.g., change filters), locks (e.g., oiling), and lockers.
  • Move furniture and assist with unloading deliveries.
Event & Operational Support
  • Set up and break down cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, and other spaces for special events.
  • Install and maintain bulletin boards and displays; repair boards, artwork, frames, and displays.
  • Monitor bicycle and vehicular traffic in parking areas when necessary.
  • Support students and staff during evacuation drills and emergencies.
Safety & Compliance
  • Take all reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, and facilities.
  • Identify and report safety hazards to the supervisor promptly.

Supervision – Reports to and receives administrative supervision from the Director of Maintenance. Receives daily work assignments from the Director of Maintenance and may receive direction from the Director of Facilities or Building Principal. Evaluated by the Director of Maintenance.

Supervisory Responsibilities – No formal supervisory duties. May occasionally train or assist junior co‑workers while working alongside them.

Qualifications Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One to two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Commercial cleaning experience preferred.
  • Experience operating floor equipment (scrubber, buffer, commercial vacuum) and performing waxing/stripping preferred.
  • Knowledge of routine housekeeping and maintenance practices required.
Skills & Abilities
  • Basic reading and writing skills.
  • Basic math skills (weight, volume, and distance measurements).
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to address routine maintenance issues using common sense and sound judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Reliable transportation required.
Physical Effort & Stress
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
  • Occasional climbing and balancing.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and move heavy equipment (e.g., bleachers, tables).
  • Visual acuity including close and distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Working Conditions
  • Regular exposure to dust, dirt, and airborne particles.
  • Frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals and vibration from equipment.
  • Occasional exposure to wet conditions, moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather, elevated areas, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Moderate noise levels typical of school and maintenance environments.
