The Grand Isle Supervisory Union is looking for a custodian. This role is split between two school districts:
Grand Isle School (1:00 PM to 6:00 PM) and South Hero School (6:30 PM to 9:30 PM). Hourly rate: $18.70–$23.68 based upon experience.

Summary:

The custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly environment for students, staff, and the public within the assigned school facility. The role involves routine and comprehensive cleaning tasks, minor maintenance, and assisting with school activities and events.

• Perform daily cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing floors in classrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms and drinking fountains, ensuring supplies are stocked.
• Empty waste receptacles and transport trash to disposal areas.
• Clean windows, walls, furniture, and fixtures; perform deep cleaning and stripping/waxing of floors during breaks.
• Ensure buildings and grounds are secure; lock doors and windows at the end of the shift.
• Monitor facility conditions and report needed repairs or unsafe conditions to the Maintenance Supervisor or Principal.
• Assist in setting up and tearing down equipment for school events, assemblies, and athletic activities.
• Respond to spills, bodily fluids, and emergencies, following safety protocols.
• Clear walkways and entrances of snow, ice, or debris to ensure safe passage.
• Complete required training for performance of job duties.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks (changing light bulbs, tightening screws, small repairs) that do not require specialized licensing.
• Receive, store, and manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Operate and maintain standard custodial equipment (floor buffers, wet vacs).
• Work collaboratively with school staff, administration, and other custodians.
• Follow all established safety procedures and use PPE as required.

• High school diploma or GED (preferred). Prior custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience highly desirable.
• Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, and equipment.
• Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor; lift and move items up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions, including MSDS.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Must pass a background check and fingerprinting as required for school employees.

Must be able to stand, walk, climb, and reach for extended periods; frequently lift and move items up to 50 pounds; operate heavy cleaning equipment.
