SUMMARY:

The Environmental Service Worker is responsible for the maintenance, care, and appearance of office spaces and center facilities, which include Head Start center facilities, ensuring that our facilities remain functional and presentable.

This position is serving NEKCA facilities in the Caledonia County region, but may require travel to other NEKCA facilities and the performance of janitorial duties at locations outside of Caledonia County on occasion or as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Carry out duties in compliance with HS Performance Standards, Content Area Plans, Vermont Child Care Licensing Regulations for Center-Based Child Care and Preschool Programs, NAEYC, and NEKCA Standard of Conduct. In Head Start center facilities, this includes:
  • Maintain facilities in good physical appearance.
  • Perform daily pickups of food donations from local businesses.
  • Weigh, log and put away food in accordance with NEKCA policies and procedures.
  • Wash or vacuum bathroom, office, and classroom floors daily.
  • Clean toilet facilities daily.
  • Wash center classroom equipment (i.e. tables, chairs, toys, cribs, etc.) weekly.
  • Vacuum/mop office space and empty trash daily.
  • Removal of recycling.
  • Clean woodwork, walls and windows as necessary

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Other facility duties as assigned, which could include, but not limited to:

  • Collecting trash and recycling from waste receptacles weekly or more frequently as needed, and ensuring proper disposal in designated areas. Clean and disinfect waste receptacles monthly.
  • Perform deep cleanings within facilities when needed
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum entryways, hallways, stairs, bathrooms, kitchen areas, common/public areas, and office spaces within all facilities weekly, more frequently as needed or required.
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms daily and replenish supplies as needed.
  • Move furniture, fixtures, equipment
  • Snow shoveling/salt/sanding and ice removal at facility entrances, steps, and connecting walkways.
  • All other duties deemed necessary by your supervisor in keeping with your job description
