Description
Crew Technicians provide a vital service to income-qualifying residents, making their homes more energy efficient, safer, and comfortable to live in. As part of the Weatherization services pipeline that starts with the Efficiency Coaching and ends with a Quality Control Inspection, Crew Techs follow detailed work plans that helps clients have homes that are warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, as well as save on energy costs.
The Crew Technician is an entry-level position that can lead to a range of more advanced positions at SEVCA, with extensive training and professional development provided.
- Arrive promptly each morning, ready to begin work at the scheduled start time.
- Load, check, and prepare crew trucks, tools, and materials needed for the day's job assignment before departure.
- Install energy conservation materials in accordance with the work scope provided by the Energy Auditor and under the direction of the Crew Chief and/or Operations Manager.
- Follow established weatherization protocols and techniques so that homes are weatherized in compliance with applicable codes and program standards.
- Perform work in an efficient, conscientious, and high-quality manner, with attention to production goals, deadlines, and monitoring standards.
- Work effectively and cooperatively as part of a crew, communicating clearly with the Crew Chief and teammates to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Take initiative by recognizing what needs to be done and acting appropriately, while bringing issues, questions, or suggestions to the Crew Chief as needed.
- Interact with clients and the public in a professional, courteous manner, treating clients and their families with dignity and respect at all times.
- Follow all job-site and vehicle safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment, ladders, staging, and power and hand tools.
- Follow SEVCA workplace policies and expectations, including those related to attendance, conduct, and appropriate use of agency vehicles and equipment.
- Clean and restock trucks, secure tools and materials, and leave the job site and work areas clean and orderly at the end of each day and when work is completed.
- Maintain tools and equipment assigned to the crew, and assist the Crew Chief with routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials as necessary, keeping the warehouse clean and orderly.
- Maintain a daily, accurate record of hours worked on a timesheet and submit it for the Crew Chief's or Operations Manager's approval.
- Bring uniforms in regularly for cleaning and maintenance.
- Continuously learn and apply new techniques and improvements to the program and service delivery.
- Participate in training, and attend workshops and conferences, as they apply to the position and the Weatherization program.
- Perform any other duties requested and/or approved by their supervisor, Program Director, or Executive Director that are consistent with the functions of this position, the Weatherization program, and with the mission, goals, and priorities of SEVCA.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Some construction experience or familiarity with and ability to use construction-related tools
- A current valid driver's license and good driving record with no major or repeated moving violations
- Ability and willingness to work effectively both independently a part of a team with co-workers
- Ability to relate to and work with a diverse range of people regardless of their circumstances and commitment to treat clients with respect and dignity
- Ability and willingness to use teamwork and cooperation with co-workers is required to ensure safety and efficiency.

- Lifting up to 50 pounds, sometimes overhead.
- The use of ladders, small staging, and all major power and hand tools is required.
- Some work is performed in hard-to-reach locations such as crawl spaces, attics, and knee wall areas
- Some work is performed in unpleasant weather and/or environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, dust, etc.).
