Location: Town of Vermont

Vermont State Parks has a rare opportunity for a qualified Maintenance Technician in the Northeast Kingdom. The successful candidate will be assigned primarily to Crystal Lake, Brighton, and Maidstone State Parks, as well as other State Park properties throughout the region. The Duty Station will be Guildhall, Island Pond, Barton, or Marshfield based on selected candidate's location.

This position needs a strong background in facility maintenance and skilled trades. Responsibilities include plumbing, carpentry and construction, structural maintenance, and the repair of park buildings, grounds, and infrastructure. The Maintenance Technician is also responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of park utility systems, including water and wastewater systems.

Additional duties include overseeing the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles, tractors, and small-engine equipment assigned to the parks.

As part of a regional team of maintenance professionals, this position collaborates on larger capital improvement and maintenance projects during the off-season while also working independently to address the day-to-day operational needs of assigned parks.

The ideal candidate is dependable, adaptable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Preference will be given to applicants with experience maintaining facilities in state, national, municipal, or community park settings.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.

OR

High school diploma or equivalent AND BOTH two (2) years or more of vocational training in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair AND one (1) year or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.

OR

High school diploma or equivalent AND BOTH two (2) years or more of work experience as a Park Ranger AND one (1) year or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.

Special Requirements

Positions in this class require a valid driver’s license.

Some positions in this class require a valid Vermont Boating Safety Education Certificate.

Positions in this class must acquire and maintain at least a 1B drinking water operator license within 6 months of hire.
