Maintenance Mechanic – Distribution Center (Conveyors)

The Maintenance Mechanic performs general maintenance and repair on facility equipment and material handling systems within a busy distribution center. This role focuses on preventative and corrective maintenance for conveyor systems, forklifts, battery chargers, HVAC, plumbing, and other building systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operations throughout the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all material handling systems in the distribution center, including conveyor systems, forklifts, and battery chargers.
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on general facility equipment such as HVAC systems, cafeteria equipment, and plumbing.
  • Participate in the facility's preventative maintenance program and act as a first responder for issues involving emergency fire and sprinkler systems.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on distribution center equipment to quickly identify and resolve issues.
  • Accurately enter all maintenance-related time, parts used, and detailed comments into the Maintenance Management System in a timely manner.
  • Provide maintenance services throughout the facility as assigned, supporting smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and construction disciplines to guide maintenance and repair work.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance as needed to complete maintenance tasks.
  • Stand, bend, lift, walk, and carry products in any combination for up to 8 hours or more at a time while performing maintenance duties.
  • Balance competing priorities and adapt to changing business needs while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality work.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders across the facility to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize operational disruptions.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of previous maintenance experience.
  • At least 1 year of maintenance experience on conveyor systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and construction drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, lift, walk, and carry products in any combination for up to 8 hours at a time.
  • Proven ability to balance competing priorities and adapt to changing business needs while meeting deadlines.
  • Comfort working in a warehouse environment with fluctuating temperatures and noise from conveyors and forklifts.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical troubleshooting, maintenance repair, and service work in a distribution or industrial environment.
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., including a training shift from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Maintenance or technology certification, training, or related education is preferred.
  • Experience working in a distribution center environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and the ability to work from schematics.
  • Experience with HVAC maintenance and repair.
  • Experience using a computerized Maintenance Management System to document work.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and equipment reliability.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a maintenance team.
