The Custodian II performs moderately complex custodial work, maintaining a safe and healthy environment in a state psychiatric hospital setting. The role involves cleaning, dusting, disinfecting, and sanitizing both interior and exterior areas; operating floor‑maintenance equipment; restocking supplies; and assisting with minor building repairs and inspections.

• Clean, dust, disinfect, and sanitize all hospital areas.
• Operate floor‑maintenance equipment such as strippers, buffers, vacuums, and extractors.
• Request and restock cleaning supplies as needed.
• Assist in building and equipment inspections for cleanliness and required repairs.
• Perform minor repairs and installations on buildings and equipment.
• Maintain assigned custodial equipment in good working order.
• Clear trash and debris from outside the hospital premises.
• Work under general supervision, exercising moderate initiative and judgment.
• Assist with disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation when required, possibly involving alternate shift patterns or locations.
• Document work accurately and promptly, protecting confidential information and maintaining inventory records.

• Six months of custodial or environmental services experience required.
• Preferred experience:
  
  custodial or environmental services in a nursing home, hospital, residential facility, hotel, or similar setting.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods, and work irregular hours.
• Proficiency in using custodial equipment, maintenance tools, and handling cleaning chemicals safely.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to follow written and oral instructions.

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations.
• Understanding of infection control principles and methods.
• Understanding of inventory control principles and methods.
• Capability to maintain cleanliness and safety in a hospital environment.
• Ability to cooperate with colleagues and patients to maintain a safe environment.
• Ability to work with limited supervision and exercise independent judgment.

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks. All applicants must be at least 18 years old; certain locations require age 21. Employees are required to comply with the HHSC immunization policy and state hospital operating procedures related to immunizations. This position may be eligible for telework under agency policies.
