The Plant Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring plant equipment, machinery, and facilities are maintained in the best achievable operating condition to minimize downtime and production interruptions while maintaining readiness for emergency repairs. This position conducts regulatory and departmental inspections, evaluates and reports findings, and assigns and oversees maintenance work performed by departmental staff. The Plant Maintenance Manager supervises equipment repairs and preventive maintenance activities and ensures that critical control point checks and maintenance practices support employee safety, product quality, food safety, and regulatory compliance.
Additionally, this position is responsible for managing maintenance services and repairs throughout the facility, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, mechanical, electrical, and machinery.
- Maintains and repairs production and building related maintenance equipment.
- Prepares reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving plant.
- (LOTO) Lock out and tag any unsafe equipment
- Ensures that all maintenance mechanics are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
- Communicates regularly with all maintenance, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.
- Proactive partners with Maintenance, Production, and Sanitation personnel to ensure the proper operation, cleaning, maintenance, and care of plant equipment and systems.
- Participates in annual fire alarm and emergency system testing.
- Assists with emergency response activities and responds promptly to fire alarm system activations.
- Safely disengages electrical, water, gas, or other utility systems as required during emergencies or maintenance activities.
- Ensures all Maintenance Mechanics and Assistants are trained on the most current operating procedures and safety requirements.
- Monitors the operation and performance of building-related equipment and systems.
- Continuously reviews the operation of production and facility equipment to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and resolve problems in a timely manner, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Conducts periodic inspections of buildings and equipment and oversees or performs preventive maintenance, including the inspection, adjustment, and repair of mechanical and facility systems.
- Initiates and leads projects designed to improve operational efficiency, reliability, and productivity while reducing operating costs.
- Maintains appropriate spare parts inventory for the plant, including tracking parts issued from inventory and ensuring timely replenishment.
