POSITION SUMMARY

The TOWN PLANT REPRESENTATIVE is responsible for performing all types of duties incidental to furnishing gas to consumers. The Town Plant Representative performs a wide variety of tasks relating to the planning, installation, and maintenance serving residential, commercial and industrial customers ensuring system safety and reliability. This individual’s primary work is on the piping system, pressure regulating equipment, and customer meters.

The Town Plant Representative will enter businesses, industrial complexes, and customer homes and communicate both verbally and in writing with business proprietors, homeowners, industrial plant owners and operators to explain complex topics.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Restoring gas service, turning on and off gas service as needed, and read meters as appropriate
  • Serves as first responder, remaining readily available and responding to text messages, phone calls, etc. as appropriate.
  • Investigate inside and outside odors of gas and carbon monoxide using approved gas detection equipment.
  • Lay service and small extension lines, make service taps, set meters and regulators, make periodic meter changes, and change charts.
  • Verify safe operations of gas-fired appliances.
  • Report consumer complaints and inquiries that require further explanation.
  • Make minor repairs on lines.
  • Check exposed lines and meters for leaks, tampering, and other unusual conditions.
  • Prepare records and reports as required electronically and on paper
  • Make minor repairs to equipment used in the performance of assigned duties, keeping the equipment in safe and proper working conditions.
  • Promote good customer and public relations.
  • Maintain records documenting compliance with appropriate procedures and regulations.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe, functional, and compliant working conditions.
  • May perform other duties as required in higher or lower job classifications as appropriate based upon operator qualifications (OQs).
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), complying with all OSHA, DOT, and company-specific safety regulations.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training, and emergency response drills as appropriate.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions or potential hazards.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The team member in this role will:

  • Support and contribute towards team goals and objectives.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with crews, supervisors, and contractors.
  • Competence in using computers, mobile devices, and/or field technology for work orders and reporting.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to hazardous conditions and emergency situations, making safe, effective decisions under pressure.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills for reporting hazards, incidents, and job progress.
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in the natural gas industry, preferred.
