Role Description This is a part‑time, on‑site Substitute Custodian role based in Ocean City, NJ. The Substitute Custodian will maintain clean, safe, and orderly school facilities, including classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and common areas. Daily duties include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, restroom sanitization, and restocking supplies. The role also involves setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for events, assisting with basic building maintenance, and reporting safety concerns, damages, or needed repairs.
The Substitute Custodian will follow established cleaning schedules, use custodial equipment safely, comply with district safety and security procedures, and collaborate with school staff to support a positive learning environment.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to perform custodial tasks such as cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining school facilities in a safe and efficient manner.
- Basic skills in using and caring for custodial tools and equipment (e.g., vacuums, floor buffers, cleaning chemicals) in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, complete assigned routines, and adapt to changing priorities during the school day.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and time‑management skills to ensure all assigned areas are maintained on schedule.
- Capacity to perform physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, standing, bending, and walking for extended periods, in compliance with reasonable accommodation requirements.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful school environment and to working cooperatively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
- Prior custodial, facilities, or maintenance experience in a school or similar setting preferred but not required.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred; successful completion of background checks and clearances required by the district and state.
