Maintenance Supervisor

Overview

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Public Works is currently looking for a Maintenance Supervisor to join our team. If you’re interested in being part of a dynamic and dedicated team, come join our team! The selected candidate will perform a variety of duties, including:

• Supervise the cleaning and maintenance of the following to ensure proper methods/techniques are utilized:
  • Storm water drainage structures, including culverts, manholes, and pipe mains
  • Concrete, metal, and plastic pipe
  • Schedule sweeping of asphalt and concrete rights-of-way
  • Stormwater pump stations maintenance
  • Stormwater pond aerator maintenance
  • Storm water sluice gate maintenance
  • Street sweeper/vacuum truck maintenance
• Discuss job requirements with and receive instruction from their supervisor to maintain clear lines of communication.
• Issue work orders to ensure proper scheduling.
• Inspect work in progress and completed work to ensure conformance with instructions and accepted City standards.
• Review daily crew reports to ensure accuracy.
• Assist in the training of subordinates to enhance performance and productivity, and counsel employees.
• Provide performance management for twelve employees.
• Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

Position is ALPHA I and is required to work during all inclement weather (snow, flooding, hurricanes, etc.).
