Job Description
HII is seeking an experienced System Support Specialist to join our team supporting the Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces (COMUSFLTFORCOM) Berthing and Messing Program, which operates duty crew berthing barges that provide essential living and working spaces for crews during ship overhaul and repair periods.
Responsibilities- Maintain, repair, and replace Internal Communication Systems to include telephone, communications, 1MC, CATV, fire/flooding and barge security system.
- Service or repair speakers, sensors, remote heat detectors, wiring, and complete minor electrical repairs.
- Troubleshoot, program, maintain, modify, and repair IT/IC systems, LAN equipment, racks, alarm systems, telephones, intercom, and miscellaneous radio systems.
- Receive, classify, document, and route service call work requests in support of barge maintenance operations.
- Maintain system status boards, logs, and digital records for barge operational systems.
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training/certification in plumbing preferred.
- 4+ years of experience in electrical and/or communication systems.
- Demonstrated experience in internal communication systems, Information technology, electrical and mechanical shipboard systems to support troubleshooting, maintenance and repair.
- Ability to read and interpret OEM manuals, drawing schematics, and technical standards.
- General mechanic knowledge and ability to operate various tools in support additional tasking.
- Experience supporting Navy berthing barges or shipboard plumbing systems.
- Support machinist tasks such as drilling, tapping, boring, reaming, and grinding of metal components.
- Experience with other primary and auxiliary shipboard systems.
- Knowledge of tag out procedures and hot work requirements per OSHA and NAVSEA standards.
- Regular:
Monday–Friday, 0700–1530. - Overtime, weekends, and federal holidays may be required for urgent/emergency work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces aboard barges and in shipyard environments.
- Must consistently wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety boots, fall protection) and follow program safety training/briefings.
- Travel: 10 % Periodic travel to Kittery, ME and Groton/New London, CT for site inspections and coordination.
Estimated yearly salary: $44,808.00 – $70,000.00.
