Custodian

The custodian reports to the General Manager (GM) or Assistant Manager (AM).

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, locker room areas, shower rooms, stall walls and doors, and all waste areas.
• Inspecting and cleaning all windows and window frames, both interior and exterior.
• Detail cleaning all baseboards, wall trim, walls, and handrails throughout the facility. Ensuring all surfaces are free of handprints, scuff marks, and dust.
• Dusting and cleaning all air vents, TVs, signage, storage or glass doors, and light fixtures.
• Assisting in front desk operations as needed, including use of Point of Sale.
• Following cleaning lists and other assigned tasks.
• Removing or "pushing down" trash from all waste areas.
• Cleaning all rubber or tile flooring throughout the gym floor, including auxiliary rooms and under gym equipment with the use of a vacuum, floor scrubber, and mop.
• Using and knowledge of operating floor scrubber and vacuum cleaner.
• Communicating with members and creating a high level of member service.
• Keeping all storage rooms clean and organized and products properly arranged on shelving racks. Discarding all loose boxes and trash.
• Notifying club management if inventory for cleaning supplies is low and needs replenishment.

Qualifications include:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Custodial experience is preferred.
• Demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality skills.
• Great communication skills with internal and external customers.
• Must be team oriented, motivated, and well organized.
• Ability to think critically and evaluate solutions to problems proactively.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work environment includes a fitness club environment with standard custodial equipment such as cleaning chemicals, floor scrubbers, and vacuums. The noise level may be loud on a regular basis. Will be required to operate in lavatory areas.

Physical demands include:

• Regularly required to talk or hear.
• Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• Must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 75 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position type/expected hours of work may be either full-time or part-time, nonexempt. Scheduled work hours per week will be set during normal club hours of operation and determined by business need. Full-time employees regularly work at least 30 hours per week. Part-time employees regularly work 29 hours per week or less. Availability of full-time and part-time positions are dependent on business need.

This position may work outside of regularly scheduled shift hours to include mornings, evenings, weekends, and overnight as required. Work hours are subject to change at any time depending on business needs.
