Description

Under the general supervision of the Deputy Chief of Administration, the Logistics position is responsible for the ordering, receiving, storing and distribution of equipment, tools and supplies to various divisions and stations. This individual is expected to coordinate purchases and deliveries, maintain accurate inventory records, work with vendors and ensure equipment readiness for emergency response and daily operational needs. This position is assigned to an Administrative work week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains security of equipment, tools and supplies.
  • Maintains warehouse and distribution standards and procedures.
  • Operates Department vehicles to deliver and pick up equipment, tools and supplies.
  • Consults with department personnel to determine specific purchasing needs and specifications when necessary.
  • Establishes successful vendor relationships; checks prices to ensure procurement at an acceptable cost.
  • Responsible for reordering equipment, tools and supplies. Writes purchase orders in accordance with County policies.
  • Investigates sources of supply, requests bids and proposals; reviews bids for compliance with specifications.
  • Sorts and places inventory in storage areas, on shelves or in bins as required.
  • Maintains a current and complete computerized inventory of equipment and related tools owned or leased by the County.
  • Coordinates the movement of equipment, tools and supplies and schedules deliveries.
  • Receives goods from vendors and checks for proper quality, quantity, condition and price.
  • Works with vendors and the regarding payments and back orders.
  • Coordinates the monthly supply order and service request forms.
  • Reviews inventory to ensure reasonable inventory limits.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports and correspondence.
  • Gathers information for equipment repairs and makes recommendations regarding the feasibility of repairing or replacing equipment and tools.
  • Packages equipment, tools and supplies for shipping or repair.
  • Assist in response to critical fire and EMS incidents, hazardous materials and other major emergencies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education / Experience:

Education equivalent to graduation from high school. Experience working in a logistics role as it relates to the Fire Service preferred.

Knowledge / Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the Department's rules, regulations, EMS protocols & methods of fire suppression. Ability to adhere to all County policies and procedures.

Ability to organize and coordinate. Must be able to work independently without direct supervision and be capable of working with volunteer personnel.

Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with career, volunteers, and the public.

Certifications / Licenses:
  • Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license with 2 years driving experience and acceptable driving record.
  • Must possess a Virginia Emergency Medical Technician - Basic
  • CPR certification
  • NIMS - ICS 100, 200 & ICS 700, 800 certifications
  • Virginia Department of Fire Programs Firefighter 1 and/or Firefighter II
  • Virginia Department of Fire Programs Hazardous Materials Operations certification
  • Must have MAYDAY Firefighter Down certification (or must obtain within one year)
  • EVOC certification
Continuation of employment will be dependent on maintaining certification requirements.

Employment will be pending on successful completion of a physical examination in regard to acceptable standards of the general physical condition of the applicant as defined by the NFPA for similar positions. This is heavy work requiring exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word level; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision, visual inspection involving small defects and /or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities.

Ability to mentally and emotionally deal with emergencies that may result in severe injury or the loss of human life.
