General DescriptionThe school custodian plays an essential role in maintaining the building and physical plant, using approved materials and supplies to keep buildings clean and promoting health and school pride through the keeping of a safe physical environment. Assistance with campus safety also may be necessary.
PreferredMinimum Qualifications
- Hold a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- Some custodial cleaning experience.
Job requires setting and working from extension ladders, moving furniture and furnishings, lifting/stacking supplies, lifting disposal containers (60‑80 pounds).
Essential Job Functions- Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub and refinish floors; clean, wax, dust, and polish furniture; wash windows and walls; and perform other general cleaning tasks in the assigned area.
- Clean restrooms: scrub and disinfect toilet doors, urinals, toilet bowls, and other fixtures daily.
- Clean drinking fountains regularly.
- Gather and empty trash.
- Apply cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures.
- Adhere to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment.
- Make certain all areas of the building are kept in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition according to division standards.
- Use universal precautions with the cleaning‑up of body fluids.
- Keep all equipment in a good state of repair and cleanliness.
- Assist in monitoring building safety and security; lock and secure areas of responsibility when leaving.
- Report immediately any damage to school property.
- Provide cleaning support when events are scheduled outside of regular school hours, if such is requested by the Principal or designee.
- Maintain the lawn and grounds; assist with inclement weather shoveling, salting, snow removal, etc., as directed.
- Maintain inventory and request cleaning supplies and materials needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Secure equipment and supplies to protect against pilferage, loss, theft, or abuse.
- Maintain awareness of energy conservation and make suggestions to supervisor and/or principal of methods and procedures to conserve energy.
- Maintain a professional relationship with students, faculty, administration, and community patrons.
- Submit all data and information as requested.
- Monitor daily district email for pertinent communication.
- Attend meetings as scheduled by supervisor and/or district administrators.
- Complete requested paperwork.
- To perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Head Custodian, or designee.
