Job Description

Reports to: Assigned Site Supervisor/Principal
General Definition of Work: Performs semi‑skilled cleaning of school building interiors, maintaining grounds, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the close supervision of the assigned site supervisor.
Essential Functions:
- Opens and secures building
- Sweeps, strips, buffs, waxes or dust mops assigned areas; cleans carpets; sweeps and mops cafeteria floors; moves tables and chairs
- Removes trash from building; picks up trash outside of buildings; maintains porch areas
- Scrubs, cleans and sanitizes restrooms including mirrors, washes basins, urinals, commodes, etc.; fills tissue, towel and soap dispensers
- Cleans walls and removes graffiti
- Dusts furniture, walls, windowsills and other woodwork; cleans windows
- Sanitizes and cleans drinking fountains
- Mows grass, weedeats, removes leaves
- Replaces light bulbs and ceiling tiles
- Hauls books and papers; moves furniture
- Cleans up spills and sanitizes areas following incidents involving bodily injuries
- Assists with overseeing car‑riding students entering and exiting the facility
- Assists maintenance technicians as required
- Assists with snow removal and ice control
- Performs various other tasks associated with the custodial profession
Physical Demands: This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel and pushing or pulling; frequently requires speaking or hearing and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing;
work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires using measuring devices, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions;
work occasionally requires exposure to blood borne pathogens and bodily fluids and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to read; thoroughness, cleanliness; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Contract Period: 12 months
