Custodian

The County of Augusta is excited to announce several job opportunities in the Facilities Management Department in the role of Custodian. The County offers job stability, great pay, medical, vision, and dental benefits, Virginia Retirement System, paid time off, and flexible working hours. These positions are full time positions and are classified as non‑exempt on the County Pay and Classification Plan with a starting salary of $33,747 annually or $16.22 hourly.

The Custodian position will report to the Facility Service Supervisor. By working with a team of staff, these positions will ensure the cleanliness, safety and efficiency of County buildings. These roles will work Monday through Friday with staggered schedules that will range from 7 am to 7 pm.

• Cleans, disinfects and maintains assigned areas in the facilities by sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming and cleaning carpets.
• Cleans, disinfects and supplies restrooms.
• Dusts and wipes/cleans windows, walls, woodwork, floors and bathroom fixtures.
• Gathers and disposes of refuse, litter and trash.
• Assists with set up for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.

• Ability to learn cleaning methods utilizing different cleaning/sanitizing chemicals and equipment.
• Ability to work safely and follow safety guidelines.
• Detail‑oriented.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to display effective customer service skills and human‑relations skills to maintain effective working relationships with the team, the public and customer base.

Previous cleaning experience is a plus. Successful applicants for this position will be subject to a criminal background check through the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.
