Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Amazon Data Services, Inc. invites applications for the Data Center Engineering Technician role in Mineral, VA. As a critical guardian of our technological infrastructure, you will maintain the heartbeat of mission‑critical technology, ensuring 99.999% uptime for global digital experiences.
Key Responsibilities- Daily building rounds to monitor and record information from electrical, mechanical, and fire/life‑safety equipment to ensure 24/7 reliability and availability.
- Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management System (EPMS).
- Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack‑level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Perform rack installs and rack decommissioning within internal SLA.
- Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Produce technical writing to support change management program.
- Monitor daily work requests, manage to resolution, and execute projects from conception to completion.
- Provide on‑site support of contractors, subcontractors and vendors, ensuring all work complies with established practices, procedures and local legislation.
- Work schedule may include up to 12‑hour shifts, rotating schedules and on‑call rotations depending on site needs.
- Be available to support multiple locations/sites if required.
- Regularly lift or move up to 39 pounds independently.
- Participate in group lifts of 40+ pounds.
- Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder.
- Walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb stairs, twist, bend, work above shoulders, grasp, carry, push and pull objects into position.
- Work in an environment requiring provided ear protection.
- Travel to other data center locations as needed; may be assigned to a facility still under development.
- Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed.
- Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational.
- Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and operational status of assigned facility.
- Must be able to travel over 50 miles or commute less than 50 miles to active data center sites as required by business needs.
- 1+ year of electrical or mechanical experience.
- 1+ year of experience with Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to work on a flexible schedule including days, nights, and/or weekends.
- 2+ years of data center engineering experience.
- Technical (Military Trade School) training.
- Associate or higher education in a related field.
As Amazon’s front line technician, you will maintain and troubleshoot mission‑critical equipment such as generators, electrical systems, cooling units, and fire/life‑safety equipment, working closely with facility managers and supporting contractors and vendors.
