Executive Business Consultant @ Appleton Finn - Head of Division - US Data Centers OverviewWe’re seeking an experienced Data Center Lead Mechanical Engineer to help manage the daily functions of a high-reliability technical site. Working closely with the site’s operations lead, you will take ownership of maintaining infrastructure performance, safety, and compliance. The role blends hands-on systems work with oversight of contractors, service partners, and internal staff.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise the day-to-day running of building systems that support critical IT operations.
- Assist in developing and executing schedules for planned maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
- Keep detailed, accurate entries in the maintenance tracking platform, including work orders, updates, and completion records.
- Confirm that work is carried out in alignment with operational guidelines, safety rules, and applicable codes or standards.
- Coordinate service visits with outside specialists, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to expected quality.
- Respond to alerts and system notifications, addressing issues to maintain uptime and prevent equipment degradation.
- Safely implement operational changes to support maintenance or project needs, including isolating systems when required.
- Participate in problem-solving and fault resolution, engaging manufacturer representatives or expert resources when appropriate.
- Minimum 5 years in roles supporting mission-critical facilities such as data centers, hospitals, or industrial plants.
- Solid understanding of electrical distribution, cooling systems, mechanical plant operations, and life-safety equipment.
- Hands-on experience with maintenance management software or other work order tracking systems.
- Strong ability to manage vendor relationships and oversee contracted work.
- Competence in reading and applying technical procedures, work instructions, and emergency response plans.
- Proficiency with standard office software; familiarity with technical drawing or infrastructure mapping tools is a plus.
- Effective communicator with a focus on reliability, safety, and service quality.
- Willing to adjust schedule for operational needs, including occasional nights, weekends, or holidays.
- Indoor technical environment with controlled temperature and restricted access.
- Monday - Fri 8am - 4pm.
- Onsite in Northern VA. - Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, work on ladders, and remain on feet for extended periods.
