Southside Virginia Community College is currently accepting applications for three Housekeeper positions on the day shift (hours may be adjusted as needed to support college operations). These positions will be located on the Alberta, VA and/or Keysville, VA campuses. Two housekeepers will be assigned to the Alberta campus, and one to the Keysville campus; location preference will be considered. The successful candidates will be committed to the mission of the College and responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Some of the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Keeps inside buildings and outside grounds areas neat and clean
- Performs housekeeping duties such as cleaning classrooms and restrooms; sweep, damp mop, clean up spills and empty trash
- Strip, seal, wax, and buff floors as assigned
- Coordinating and assisting with the setup of equipment and furniture for events, or as needed
- Responsible for making periodic rounds of the building and parking lots to ensure the safety of students, faculty, staff, and the security of equipment. Report any problems to the Buildings & Grounds Supervisor
- Assist students, staff, faculty, and visitors as needed
- Assist with the evacuation of the building in case of an emergency, and assist with getting help for medical and security emergencies.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including different shifts, weekends, and special events as required
- May, on occasion, be responsible for distributing campus mail and delivering outgoing mail to the local Post Office
- Performs preventive maintenance and monitors mechanical systems during shift, and reports any problems to the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor
- Lock and unlock all doors before and after students leave. Turn on and off all lights and unused equipment
- Experience in performing cleaning tasks, floor care, restroom cleaning, and general custodial care
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and use of cleaning chemicals and supplies, and of safety practices as related to the work
- Ability to perform a variety of cleaning tasks, lift and move heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to operate manual and power equipment
- Ability to deliver exceptional customer service
- Ability to read and understand product labels, handling instructions, user manuals, etc
- Ability to work without close supervision
- Ability to read and understand simple instructions
- Ability to operate computers and use basic software such as e-mail, time reporting, and work order applications
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality of information accessed while performing duties in classrooms, office spaces, and other campus facilities
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision while following established policies and procedures, and as part of a team
- Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license
- Knowledge of the proper way to strip, seal, wax, and buff floors
- Knowledge of basic security
