The City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities is looking for a Maintenance Technician for the Cemeteries Division. This position is responsible for general grounds maintenance and cleaning of parks, cemeteries, and facilities throughout Parks Recreation and Community Facilities. This position will assist the department with establishing and executing regular maintenance cycles that will ensure that the parks, cemeteries, facilities, and green spaces are safe, clean, and accessible for public use.
Duties- Performing routine cleaning tasks and maintenance of community centers, shelters, and restrooms.
- Mowing, weed eating, trash/debris removal, supporting special events and projects, and snow/ice removal.
- Maintaining athletic field maintenance, leaf collection/removal, invasive plant removal, and minor equipment repair.
- Cleaning buildings and other facilities as needed.
- Provide Park guest with friendly & professional customer service, useful information and recommendations for safe park and facility usage.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position is considered an Essential Personnel, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions, or inclement weather.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- The incumbent has considerable knowledge of grounds maintenance, planning, and following safety rules and regulations.
- Demonstrated skills in operating grounds maintenance equipment. Effective oral and written communication is desired.
- Proven dependability and customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to self-manage, work on a team, problem solve and prioritize tasks.
- Knowledge of turf management practices is desired.
- Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
- One year of grounds maintenance experience.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.
- Valid Virginia Driver’s License Required.
- Proper use and maintenance of small engine equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, and blowers preferred.
Special Requirements
- Some positions may require a valid driver’s license with an acceptable record and a Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
