Your role at a glance
The Facilities Engineer coordinates and performs overall daily building and property maintenance within a geographic area with the assistance of staff and external vendors. This is a Monday through Friday position that requires flexibility to provide coverage at night, weekends, or in emergency situations. Regular attendance is essential for satisfactory performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Coordinate and perform property and facilities maintenance and project activities.
- Perform interior and exterior building walk‑throughs, ensuring the day‑to‑day cleanliness of facility exteriors, customer areas, office spaces and restrooms, and that all are maintained and properly stocked.
- Assist with managing contract and direct janitorial and facility staff to keep building floors and data floor corridors clean by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming, and emptying waste receptacles.
- Submit fire system disable requests or other procedures to the Operations Team prior to any work that could impact critical equipment or client‑occupied areas.
- Work directly with suppliers to ensure proper restocking of facility‑related consumable items and parts, achieving performance at the lowest possible cost.
- Perform projects and other duties assigned by the Regional or Local Facilities Manager, continually monitoring material processes for improvement.
- Coordinate and assist with property and building area requests, including furniture and material moves using pallet jacks, carts, or dollies.
- Coordinate and complete regular building repairs and installations, including minor wall, ceiling, flooring surface patches, door repairs, and building accessories.
- Conduct preventive maintenance as assigned by the Site Property Manager.
- Coordinate and complete facility setup and breakdown of decorations, tables, chairs, and ladders for events such as banquets, meetings, and tour preparations.
- Assist with accurate record‑keeping through documentation of daily tasks and updates to maintenance and repair status in work order and ticketing systems.
- Assist team leadership in developing and maintaining organizational performance to key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Assist team leadership in maintaining performance within budgets (operational, capital, and special projects).
- Assist in monthly Site Property Manager inspections.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP), fire life safety and building systems.
- Technical aptitude to manage routine maintenance and repairs on HVAC, lighting, and plumbing systems.
- Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, visual, and listening.
- Ability to read and interpret construction and building drawings and material/product data sheets.
- Problem‑solving skills with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in selecting and using proper PPE.
- Capability to operate person lifts, forklifts, and other operator equipment.
- Basic use of MS Office, data entry, and CMMS (eMaint).
- Detail orientated and able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to operate hand and machine tools.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree or 2–3 years of trade school/technical vocational training with an earned certificate or equivalent.
- Hand and machine tool experience.
- Fire and life/safety experience preferred.
- Bi‑lingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Primarily walking, standing, and bending with some sitting.
- Ability to communicate effectively with verbal, visual, and listening skills.
- Close visual work on a computer terminal.
- Dexterity of hands/fingers to operate required equipment and a computer keyboard, mouse.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and work on raised platforms.
- Typical office and data center environment with varying temperatures and loud noises.
- Extensive daily usage of a computer or workstation.
- Work onsite; no telecommuting.
- Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, or on‑call support as required.
