Perform routine custodial and housekeeping services and assure security of the buildings. Typical duties include:
- Collect trash, litter, and debris from the buildings and grounds.
- Vacuum carpets and mop floors.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms.
- Set up rooms for meetings and conferences.
- Follow established guidelines for safety, security, and work priority.
- May collect medical waste and handle paperwork for pick‑up.
- Sweep outside the building.
- Dust and clean furniture, spot‑clean doors, walls, counters, mirrors, and other surfaces.
- Notify maintenance supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
- Assist in emergencies or other duties as assigned by VDH.
- Participate in training and adjust work hours, location, and duties as needed.
- May work as a mobile worker, teleworking when not in the field.
Wage employees are subject to the following conditions of employment:
- Serve at the will and pleasure of the appointing authority.
- Continuing employment is based on available funding and business need.
- No coverage under the Virginia Personnel Act; not eligible for standard benefits such as leave credits, holiday pay, insurance, grievance procedure.
- Paid only for hours worked.
- Cannot work in excess of 29 hours per week on average over a year; may not exceed 1,500 hours in the Standard Measurement Period (May 1 – April 30).
- After reaching 1,500 hours, may be rehired only after the next Standard Measurement Period begins.
- Eligible to apply for classified positions and purchase retirement credit if accepted.

Minimum Qualifications- Knowledge of cleaning methods, chemicals, equipment, and supplies.
- Knowledge of safety practices related to work.
- Skill in operating manual power cleaning equipment.
- Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to interact and communicate well with internal and external customers.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
- Previous experience in housekeeping and use of power cleaning equipment.
