Job Duties

The Boiler Operator at Catawba Hospital is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the hospital's steam generation and distribution systems to ensure continuous, reliable service. Duties include operating boiler plant equipment in accordance with established policies and procedures; collecting and accurately recording operational data on hourly, daily, and weekly logs; performing routine, preventive, and emergency corrective maintenance on boilers and related mechanical systems;

and completing all work orders within established time frames while maintaining compliance with applicable standards and regulations, including The Joint Commission, CMS, VOSHA, NFPA, and state and local codes. The position also requires maintaining a clean, safe, and organized boiler plant and work area, ensuring adequate shop stock to prevent delays in routine repairs, and assisting with snow and ice removal in assigned areas to maintain safe access and operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to physically perform duties and ability to work the scheduled hours, including on-call for Boiler Plant.
Considerable knowledge of boiler plant systems, associated auxiliary equipment, and normal/emergency operations and functions. Considerable skill in the operation of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment. Demonstrated ability to analyze and regulate Boiler Plant equipment and to maintain accurate records.

Additional Considerations

Previous boiler plant experience is strongly preferred.
