Description

The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment throughout the facility. This role performs routine cleaning and sanitation duties across administrative areas, dining spaces, and residential common areas. The Housekeeper plays an important role in supporting infection control, environmental safety, and overall facility operations in a residential treatment setting.

1. Facility Cleaning & Sanitation
  • Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of facility areas including offices, hallways, restrooms, common areas, and dining spaces.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and disinfect floors and surfaces throughout assigned buildings.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms including toilets, sinks, mirrors, showers, and fixtures.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, railings, and shared equipment.
  • Empty trash receptacles and replace liners throughout the facility.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment in accordance with facility cleanliness standards.
2. Residential & Common Area Maintenance
  • Clean common areas in residential dorm buildings including hallways, lounges, and shared bathrooms.
  • Support cleanliness in dining areas, cafeteria spaces, and administrative offices.
  • Monitor facility areas for cleanliness concerns and address spills or sanitation needs promptly.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for clients and staff in all common areas.
  • Coordinate with residential staff regarding cleaning schedules and access to dorm areas.
3. Infection Control & Safety Compliance
  • Follow proper infection control procedures and sanitation practices when cleaning facility areas.
  • Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely in accordance with manufacturer instructions and facility policies.
  • Maintain separation of cleaning tools and supplies used for restrooms and general facility areas.
  • Report maintenance concerns, hazards, or sanitation issues to supervisors promptly.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with health department, DBHDS, and facility environmental safety standards.
4. Supply Management & Facility Support
  • Maintain housekeeping carts and cleaning equipment in proper working order.
  • Monitor cleaning supply levels and notify supervisors when supplies need to be reordered.
  • Assist with organizing janitorial closets and supply areas.
  • Support special cleaning needs during inspections, facility events, or high-use periods.
  • Perform additional cleaning tasks as assigned to support facility operations.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • A high school diploma or GED (minimum).
  • Prior housekeeping or custodial experience in healthcare, residential, hospitality, or institutional settings preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the facility.
  • Must be able to pass a state and federal background check and drug screening per Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) regulations.
Skills and Abilities Needed for Success
  • Ability to perform cleaning tasks efficiently while maintaining high sanitation standards.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and safe use of cleaning products.
  • Strong attention to detail when maintaining facility cleanliness.
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned cleaning areas.
  • Ability to communicate maintenance or sanitation concerns to supervisors.
  • Ability to work in a residential healthcare or behavioral health environment while maintaining professionalism and respect.
  • Work is performed throughout multiple buildings within the facility including administrative offices, dining areas, and residential dorm buildings.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting cleaning equipment, and performing physical cleaning tasks.
  • May involve exposure to cleaning chemicals and routine sanitation procedures.
