Widewater State Park is accepting applications for a Maintenance Ranger position.
Job Summary:
Performs general grounds care such as mowing, string trimming, litter clean-up and brush clearing; regular facility maintenance, such as light construction and cleaning;trail maintenance and construction; and any other park-related duties as assigned to provide the best possible guest experience.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Primary duties include trash removal, facility cleaning, and grounds maintenance.
- Additional duties include trail maintenance and corridor clearing, light construction such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing, etc., maintenance and repair of small engine equipment, informing guests about the park and its rules, and other duties as assigned.
- The seasonal term is from August 1 through October 31, 2026.
- Target hours: 32 hoursper week
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to work various shifts including weekends, holidays, and night shifts.
Additional Considerations:
- Previous experience with landscaping tasks including mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing.
- Previous experience with the trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.

Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify. - Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements:
Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefit sand are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service) are entitled to overnight facility discounts, such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
