Bring your operational leadership to a role that makes a difference.

Your experience has a place here

If you have led people, maintained critical facilities or equipment, coordinated contractors, managed risk or kept operations running under pressure, your Armed Forces experience could transfer strongly to this role.

Overgate Hospice is an independent charity providing compassionate specialist palliative and end-of-life care for adults across Calderdale. We are modernising and expanding our facilities so that we can care for more local people—and we need a capable Maintenance Supervisor to help keep our hospice and retail estate safe, compliant and effective.

The role

You will lead the day-to-day delivery of estates maintenance across the hospice and its retail sites.

You will supervise the Maintenance Support Team, coordinate contractors, oversee planned and reactive work, and help ensure that our buildings, engineering services and infrastructure meet legal, safety and compliance standards.

What you’ll be responsible for
  • Leading, allocating work to, mentoring and supporting the Maintenance Support Team.
  • Coordinating contractors and checking RAMS, insurance, accreditations and permits.
  • Overseeing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, building fabric, grounds and internal finishes.
  • Planning and monitoring planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs and minor improvements using an online PPM system.
  • Leading shop refits, refurbishments and minor capital works while minimising operational disruption.
  • Maintaining safe systems of work, including risk assessments, PPE and permit-to-work controls.
  • Responding to urgent issues, making buildings safe and escalating risks appropriately.
  • Helping drive continuous improvement across the hospice and its retail estate.
How your military experience could transfer

This role may particularly suit service leavers, veterans or reservists with experience in engineering, technical trades, facilities, infrastructure, logistics or operational support.

Relevant transferable experience could include:

  • Leading teams, setting priorities and delivering to demanding deadlines.
  • Planned and corrective maintenance, fault diagnosis and asset readiness.
  • Coordinating contractors, suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Working in regulated environments, following procedures and maintaining auditable records.
  • Managing risk and responding calmly to incidents.
  • Controlling equipment, vehicles, stores or other operational assets.
  • Producing clear reports and escalating issues effectively.
What we’re looking for

You do not need to have worked in a hospice before. We are looking for evidence that you can apply your experience in an estates environment or similar.

  • Experience supervising maintenance or facilities work and managing or leading people.
  • Hands-on knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing or building-fabric maintenance.
  • Experience coordinating contractors and external service providers.
  • Experience managing planned maintenance schedules and reactive repairs.
  • A sound understanding of health and safety, compliance and safe systems of work.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using digital systems.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • A full UK driving licence.
The person you’ll be

You will be proactive, dependable and solutions-focused, with the confidence to work independently while supporting and developing others.

You will be comfortable adapting to changing priorities, maintaining high standards and undertaking further training. The role includes lone working, working with minimal supervision and a rotating working pattern aligned with service requirements.

We welcome applications from service leavers, veterans and reservists.

Overgate Hospice values equality, diversity and inclusion and is committed to safeguarding children and adults at risk.
