Craig County Public Schools is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and safety-minded individual to join our team as a Grounds, Maintenance, and Garage Technician.

This position plays an important role in keeping our schools, grounds, and division vehicles safe, clean, functional, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors. The successful candidate will work independently as well as collaboratively with the Facilities team to support the daily operations of our schools and facilities.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Building & Facilities Maintenance

Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to school buildings.

Assist with basic painting, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC filter replacement, and electrical tasks.

Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.

Set up and take down furniture, equipment, and materials for school events and activities.

Assist with maintaining clean and safe classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.

Grounds Maintenance

Maintain lawns, gardens, athletic fields, playgrounds, and parking areas.

Operate landscaping equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and snow-removal equipment.

Perform seasonal duties such as snow removal, salting, leaf removal, mulching, and pruning.

Keep outdoor areas free of litter, debris, and potential safety hazards.

Garage & Vehicle Support

Assist with routine inspections and basic maintenance of division vehicles and equipment, including buses, vans, utility carts, and maintenance equipment.

Maintain garage tools, equipment, and inventory.

Coordinate with vendors for necessary vehicle or equipment repairs.

Assist with fueling, oil changes, and maintaining service records and logs.

Safety & Team Responsibilities

Report accidents, safety concerns, and potential hazards to the Facilities Maintenance Manager.

Follow all established safety procedures and properly use required safety and personal protective equipment.

Maintain knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and the safe operation of CCPS equipment.

Take appropriate precautions to protect students, staff, visitors, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Participate in required in-service training and professional development.

Support and comply with all school and division policies, procedures, and regulations.

Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate will have:

A high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience in building maintenance, grounds maintenance, cleaning, or related work is desirable.

Knowledge of workplace safety practices and proper equipment operation.

Ability to safely operate tools, landscaping equipment, and other maintenance equipment.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to complete tasks efficiently.

Ability to work independently while also being a dependable member of a team.

Professional and courteous communication skills when interacting with students, staff, families, vendors, and visitors.

A commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming school environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the ability to perform physical tasks associated with facilities and grounds maintenance, including:

Frequent walking and lifting.

Climbing, sitting, stooping, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, and repetitive motions.

Lifting and carrying items weighing up to approximately
50 pounds.

Occasional lifting and handling of equipment weighing up to approximately
50 pounds.
