Position Summary

The Housekeeping Floor Tech ensures that the facility's floors, carpets, and general surfaces are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition at all times to support the care and welfare of residents in a healthful environment. Operating specialized floor maintenance equipment, the Floor Tech delivers routine and deep-cleaning floor care while ensuring good housekeeping standards are met across all departments in cooperation with facility leadership.

Responsibilities

& Accountabilities
  • Operate, clean, and maintain heavy-duty floor care equipment, including floor buffers, burnishers, auto-scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, and carpet extractors.
  • Perform hard-surface floor care duties including sweeping, dust-mopping, damp-mopping, stripping, waxing, sealing, and buffing high-traffic areas, corridors, resident rooms, and offices.
  • Vacuum, spot-clean, shampoo, and extract dirt from carpeted areas, rugs, and entrance mats.
  • Follow specific cleaning, floor restoration, and service schedules as outlined by leadership.
  • Execute all cleaning and floor maintenance procedures safely, placing appropriate caution signs (e.g., "Wet Floor") to prevent slips, trips, and falls.
  • Complete all floor care assignments scheduled for each unit and department.
  • Maintain assigned areas to ensure a sanitary, odor-free, safe, and orderly environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Check stock of chemicals and floor care supplies, notifying the supervisor of reorder needs.
  • Maintain all floor machinery in good working condition, cleaning equipment and returning it to the proper storage location after use.
  • Assist with room changes, heavy furniture moving, waste removal, and general housekeeping tasks as needed.
  • Ensure residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes individual needs and rights.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, including but not limited to responsibilities assigned by the Director and/or Administrator.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • High school degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Prior experience operating floor care equipment (buffers, scrubbers, extractors) preferred.
  • Provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
Job Skills & Physical Demands
  • Good physical condition, with the ability to stand, walk, bend, push heavy machinery, and lift equipment throughout the shift.
  • Working knowledge of floor care techniques, standard cleaning materials, safety practices, and specialized equipment.
  • Knowledge of chemical safety (SDS) and reasons for proper chemical usage.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and government agency representatives.
