Public Works Maintenance, Laborer, DPW. Employee Type: FT Non-Exempt.
No two days are the same. As Public Works Maintenance, you ll perform a wide variety of maintenance and repair duties, including:
- Maintaining City parks, athletic fields, public buildings, restrooms, easements, and rights-of-way through mowing, trimming, weed control, irrigation maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep.
- Keeping parks clean, safe, and inviting by performing trash collection, restroom cleaning, playground maintenance, and routine inspections.
- Assisting with the maintenance and repair of City streets, storm sewers, and drainage systems through manual labor and equipment operation.
- Setting up safe work zones, assisting with traffic control, installing guardrails, performing road patching, paving, and concrete work.
- Removing snow and ice from streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and other public areas using plows, salters, shovels, and other equipment.
- Operating pickup trucks, trailers, lawn mowers, chainsaws, hand tools, and other light equipment.
- Removing roadway debris and other hazards to keep City streets safe.
- Assisting with setup, teardown, and support of City events.
- Supporting emergency response efforts, winter operations, special projects, and mutual aid initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some experience operating light automotive equipment in varying weather conditions is preferred.
- Valid Michigan driver s license with chauffeur endorsement and a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to maintain one throughout employment.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform minor equipment repairs and adjustments.
- A strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- A commitment to safety and following established procedures.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good judgment, professionalism, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills for daily job functions.
An employee in this position is required to regularly work in the field directly participating in heavy manual labor or observing work in progress. While in the field, the employee is required to operate light and heavy equipment and access work sites including confined spaces. Work sites may involve fumes, dust, chemical or other hazardous materials, loud machinery and equipment and other dangers.
An employee in this position must have the strength, stamina and physical coordination needed to perform heavy manual labor and skilled equipment operation in outside weather conditions, including prolonged exposure to extreme heat and cold.
