Job Overview

Brandeis University is looking for a Custodian in the Facilities Department.

Wednesday - Sunday; 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM (40‑hour work week). Hourly rate: $26.11 + $1.70 shift differential.

• Clean, strip, and polish building surfaces as directed.
• Read, understand, and carry out simple written and oral instructions in English.
• Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with supervisors, fellow workers, department heads, and other members of the campus community.
• Work in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
• Bend, stoop, lift, and move furniture, shovel snow, and remove trash weighing up to 30 pounds.
• Organize responsibilities and tasks, working independently or as part of a project team.
• Receive and ship packages, luggage, and supplies.
• Set up rooms for conferences, lectures, and special events.
• Respond to and clean up after emergencies and disasters.
• Assist in the security and protection of facilities, including locking and unlocking exterior and interior doors.
• Perform other related tasks as required.

Inside campus buildings and outside the perimeter of buildings.

Floor buffers, vacuums of all types, wet vacuums, automatic walk‑behind and riding floor scrubbers, pressure washers, 44‑gallon trash containers, snow shovels, ice chippers, brooms, mops, pails with rings, and chemicals including ammonia, bleach, germicide/disinfectant, floor stripper, wax, ice melt, and metal polish.
