Job Description Summary
The physical demands of this position range from LIGHT to MEDIUM. The role involves daily cleaning and maintenance activities including washing rooms, rest rooms, floors, carpets, interior and exterior waste baskets, urns, receptacles; trash removal to waste collection areas; cleaning and polishing furniture, drinking fountains, brass and stainless fixtures, etc.; furniture moving and set up during university functions and seasonal salting, sanding and snow removal.
These tasks are performed in accordance with OSHA regulations and established schedules and procedures at Bentley University.
- Perform all floor maintenance in accordance with industry standards.
- Properly care for and maintain equipment under charge, such as vacuums and floor machines.
- Wear safety shoes and Bentley uniforms at all times; wear eye and hearing protection during certain tasks.
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of buildings and adjacent ground areas; empty and clean interior and exterior waste baskets, smoking urns, receptacles, and deliver waste to designated collecting areas; monitor immediate building exterior.
- Clean and polish office furniture, including desks, tables, book cases, file cabinets, brass, stainless steel, and drinking fountains.
- Dust and clean ledges, corners, baseboards, and all furniture without disturbing customer belongings.
- Maintain sanitary conditions in washrooms, restrooms, drinking fountains, and locker rooms.
- Participate in training to keep knowledge, skills, and abilities current with operational practices.
- Follow proper clean‑up, recycling procedures and observe all safety rules and regulations while handling Bentley tools and equipment.
- Report building damages, malfunctioning equipment, maintenance needs, and repairs.
- Move and set up furniture and equipment for ongoing university operations and functions; perform light furniture moves for safety or cleaning.
- Respond to campus cleaning emergencies and emergency call‑in situations.
- Interact professionally with all members of the Bentley community.
- Input data into the computerized work order system, recording time and work order information.
- Maintain and monitor immediate building exterior, removing litter and snow, and salt/sand walks, porches, entrances, and stairways.
- Provide support during major campus activities: snow removal, freshman orientation, open house, opening/closing of school, baccalaureate and post‑baccalaureate commencement.
- Change light bulbs as needed.
- Assist other trades as directed by Facilities Manager.
- Perform all other related duties necessary to meet Facilities Management requirements.
- 1–3 years of experience preferred.
- Physically able to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Ability to read, write, and interpret documents in English (safety rules, MSDS, manuals).
- Effective interpersonal communication with co‑workers and supervisors.
- Availability for emergency call‑in situations.
- Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license; insurable driving history; may be required to drive a Bentley‑issued vehicle.
- Proper use and care of Bentley tools, radios, and equipment.
- Squat, kneel, maintain bent postures 5–10 minutes, occasional to frequent.
- Walk up to 300 feet on a repetitive basis; climb up to 24 steps occasionally.
- Lift up to 25 pounds individually; up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Carry up to 25 pounds at waist level for up to 25 feet, occasional to frequent.
- Push and pull resistances up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Extend reach overhead handling up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Manipulate small parts, machine and computer controls, various hand tools frequently.
Exposure to seasonal temperature extremes, occasional wet and slippery conditions, moving mechanical parts, close spaces, heights, ladders, stairs, cleaning chemicals. Noise levels moderate to occasionally high.
Pay TransparencySalary: $24.68 per hour.
